Excellent review!
ReplyDeleteI have the A1 as well. My BIGGEST complaint is the lack of a finger choil. It desperately needs it. Give it a finger choil, and I'd love to compare it to my Busse Boss Jack and Fehrman Shadow Scout. All are exactly the same size and pretty much the same weight. The others have a choil for choking up to do finer work. Great knife though...fits perfectly in my small/medium hand.
ReplyDeleteYea it is a great knife. I left it in the States since I couldn't bring too many things overseas and I miss it dearly - especially since I put a blaze orange micarta handle on it :)
ReplyDeleteI happened to read the viewer's mark against the A-1 due its not having a choil. My experience has been that this is a trade-off actually. The lack of a choil in a knife of the same overall length of a knife with a choil equates to better performance when one batons thru wood since the blade has more cutting edge. This larger span, although not a big increase, can make a difference when batoning thru larger diameter log sections. The obvious downside of not having a choil is that one loses some ability to choke up on the blade. In short, the lack of a choil is better for large tasks and worse for finer tasks.
ReplyDeleteWhat zytel handle and kraton sheath?
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I have and this is a personal problem I have gigantic hands and this handle is a tad small for me but over all this thing is well worth the money.
